A Hollywood auction to be held next month will include more than 100 different pieces from the sets of the Back to the Future trilogy, including a DeLorean DMC-12 used in the filming of the third movie. The car is expected to sell for anywhere from $400,000 to $600,000, and part of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Of the remaining three vehicles from the movie lot, this is the only one available to the public.

The DeLorean, which was used in the scene where Marty goes back from a drive-in in 1985 to 1885 to track down Doc Brown, sat untouched in Universal Studios' backlot for 14 years. Whoever gets their hands on this vehicle will surely be the envy of Marty McFly fans everywhere.

Chances are that if the collector who winds up winning the auction wants to get the car up and running, it will need a lot of work. Car repairs can be expensive, especially for a DeLorean, as the cars haven't been made in decades. If you're not restoring a classic piece of cinematic history, an extended auto warranty can help to cover the cost of repairs and maintenance on your current vehicle, so you can save money in case the DeLorean ever goes back to the auction block.
