BMW reports that plenty of drivers are enthusiastic about EVs months before introducing new electric concept cars at Frankfurt Motor Show.

BMW recentlyconducted a study on driver responses to electric vehicles (EVs), which they claim is the most in-depth investigation of EVs to-date. The German automaker monitored 138 drivers who switched from conventional gas-powered engines to electric motors for one year and found that it didn’t make much of a difference in their daily driving behavior, Business Green reports.

The study showed that drivers only charged their cars an average of three times per week, even though they were putting roughly 30 miles on the cars each day.

At the end of the study, nearly every driver said that they would consider purchasing EVs, and 50 percent admitted that a higher pricetag would not hold them back from buying electric cars.

The release of this study coincides nicely with news that BMW will be unveiling its i-series concept cars at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany this fall. The all-electric i3 is slated to be able to reach speeds up to 93 miles per hour, and travel 80 to 100 miles on a single charge, according to Consumer Reports.

If you don’t own an EV, you can improve and preserve the fuel economy of your current vehicle by getting regular maintenance, and an auto warranty can help cover the cost so you can save to buy an EV.
