Ford recently introduced the new Focus Electric, which has a faster charging time and a better range than the Nissan Leaf. The new car is expected to charge in half the amount of time it takes a Leaf, and it may have a fuel economy equivalent of more than 100 miles per gallon.

"The Focus Electric is a shining example of the leading fuel economy Ford is offering for each new vehicle," said Derrick Kuzak, the group vice president for Ford's global product development. "Whether people want a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full battery-electric vehicle, we have a family of vehicles for them to consider, providing a range of options to best meet their needs and support their driving habits and lifestyles."

This car will not only give drivers a new option for midsize electric vehicles, but it will also contribute to Ford's fleetwide fuel economy. The automaker expects that about one-third of its fleet will have a fuel economy rating over 40 mpgs in 2012. Drivers can improve their current vehicles' fuel efficiency by getting regular maintenance and addressing repairs as soon as they crop up. The cost can be covered by an extended warranty as well, so motorists can save up for a new car like the Focus Electric.
