GM to introduce electric Chevy Spark at the LA Auto Show

General Motors will be introducing the electric Chevrolet Spark for the very first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This will be the very first all-electric vehicle produced by GM, and it is slated to be available by 2013. Drivers who want to purchase an electric vehicle, but may not have the funds or be ready to make the switch just yet, can consider purchasing an extended warranty. This will ensure that they can maintain and repair their current vehicle without spending a ton of money, so they can save up for an electric car.

"We welcome competitors into the market," Mark Perry, the director of product planning for Nissan Americas, told Reuters. "We're glad that GM has decided to go pure electric. This brings further validity to the segment."

GM has already made a name for itself with the Chevy Volt, which has sold more than 3,000 units in its first year of production, according to the news source. The automaker does not expect its alternative energy vehicles to fly off the shelves right away, but the move to produce more options for their drivers will keep GM competitive as drivers begin to push for alternative-fuel options.
