Rather than unveil their latest innovation at the North American International Auto Show and having to compete with dozens of other debuts, Kia introduced their first electric vehicle

and zero-emission concept car at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The South Korean automaker showcased the Ray, a production-ready EV that is expected to be available to American drivers some time this year. This also marks the North American debut of the Naimo EV concept car, which highlights the innovations Kia is working on for the future of technology-integrated, user-centered driving (UCD) experience.

"With the Kia Ray, which is Korea's first production electric vehicle, and the Naimo concept's forward-thinking UCD telematics, Kia is demonstrating leadership in the area of advanced technology development as our global R and D team pursues the goal of taking the vehicle-driver relationship to new levels with facial recognition technology and a number of interactive features," said Michael Sprague, the vice president of marketing and communications for Kia Motors America.

Electric vehicles are slowly becoming more popular for their complete independence from gasoline, which is quite expensive these days. Drivers who want to save money at the pump with their current vehicles should get regular maintenance to keep things running smoothly until they're ready to make the transition to electric.
