NHTSA announces a ghostly recall for Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce is recalling nearly 600 Ghost sedans from the 2010 model year for an issue with the cooling system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the recall is for Ghost cars that are equipped with turbocharged engines.

The circuit board of the auxiliary water pump may overheat, which can lead to fires in the engine compartment. The auxiliary pump is designed to continue to draw heat away from the turbocharger, but if the circuit board overheats it can cause these pumps to malfunction. This will lead to a buildup of heat in the engine, which can potentially result in an engine fire, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Rolls-Royce reports that no reports of fires caused by this problem have been received, but they will still inspect all affected vehicles and make any necessary repairs and replacements free-of-charge. Drivers who are facing non-recall repairs can invest in an extended warranty, which will cover the costs so they can put the money they save into their dream car fund.
