There are many different types of automobile extended warranties ranging from “bumper-to-bumper” plans down to powertrain warranty and even below.  Obviously the older your vehicle, the less coverage you would qualify for.  If your vehicle has over 100,000 miles then typically you will only qualify for a powertrain warranty.

The good news is that some powertrain warranties cover quite a bit and can protect you for up to 100,000 additional miles.

Here are some of the components that are covered by the better powertrain warranties:

This plan covers your Engine, turbo/supercharger, transmission, transfer case, drive axels, seals and gaskets, A/C and heating, electrical, cooling system, fuel system, and interior electronics like your power windows, power door locks, windshield washer motor and pump, horn, and manually operated switches.

Lesser powertrain warranty companies may only cover your engine and transmission with a maximum on what they will pay.

So, do your research when looking for a powertrain warranty
