Rate of drunk driving accidents continues to decline

Recent data compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that drunk driving fatalities are continuing to decline. The number of deaths caused by drunk driving dropped

4.9 percent between 2009 and 2010, from 10,759 to 10,228. What's more impressive is that this number is more than half what it was when drunk driving data was first tracked in 1982, which amounted to 21,113 deaths caused by intoxicated drivers.

"MADD is proud to see that the hard work of millions of Americans who've taken a stand against drunk driving have helped cut this deadly crime in half since our founding," said Jan Withers, the national president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. "However, one life impacted by this terrible crime is one life too many as there's still more than 10,000 drunk driving fatalities and hundreds of thousands of injuries every year."

Even though drunk driving is a crime, some drivers still get behind the wheel when intoxicated, which makes the roads dangerous for other drivers. Should an accident occur, an extended warranty can cover the cost of repairs.
