The Dukes of Hazzard original Dodge Charger to be put on auction block

The original 1969 Dodge Charger that was used in the first season of The Dukes of Hazzard will soon be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Auction House in Scottsdale, Arizona. The show used many different versions of the vehicle over the course of its seven seasons, but this particular car was the one featured in the opening sequence, jumping the canyon.

Inside Line reports that the very first car to fill the role of "General Lee," dubbed the Lee 1 during its production days, was sent to a junkyard. The Lee 1 remained there for more than 20 years, after only taking part in a couple of episodes.

In 2001, Travis Bell rescued the iconic vehicle and he and Marvin Murphy, a later owner, worked together to restore it to its pre-Dukes condition. The news source reports that a replica of the general Lee with a HEMI engine recently sold at auction for $450,000.

"If the Lee 1 sells for less than that, it would be sad," Bell told the news publication.

Drivers who don't want their own vehicles to succumb to a fate of sitting in a junkyard, can invest in an extended warranty to cover the cost of repairs and keep their cars running longer.
