# Hyundai Elantra most valuable compact car under $20,000

Moderately-priced cars with good mileage were pitted against one another to determine which vehicles are the best in the category. USA Today and Cars.com worked together, putting five compact cars, which have sticker prices under $20,000 and get more than 35 miles to the gallon, through a series of

 tests in (over) a three-day period. Cars.com reports that four of the five cars that were tested were best-sellers in the past few months.

"We always include a full day of testing by shoppers who evaluate the cars' features, comfort, handling and styling," said Patrick Olsen, the editor-in-chief at Cars.com. "This helps us determine what matters to drivers in a car and that feedback contributes to the crowning of our winner.

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra came out on top as it gets approximately 40 miles to the gallon and costs $17,760.
