Minivans are typically the least expensive cars to insure

Car insurance can be expensive for a variety of reasons. A motorist's accident history and driving record can come into play, and certain states' rates tend to be higher than others. The type of car also factors into the cost of its insurance, and Insure.com recently released its annual survey on which cars are the least and most expensive to insure. The Toyota Sienna LE minivan was ranked as the least expensive to insure, while the Audi R8 Spyder Quattro with a V10 engine was found to be the most expensive vehicle when it comes to car insurance.

"Minivans have always had a strong showing in our 'least expensive' rankings," said Amy Danise, editorial director of Insure.com. "They regularly prove to be safe, economical vehicles. And, notably, we're seeing pickup trucks back on the 'least expensive' list after an absence last year."

Drivers who want cars that typically have pricey insurance may be able to afford the expense, but any unexpected auto repair fees might upset their budget. An auto extended warranty can be just the ticket to keeping vehicles in top shape without having to worry about financing the repairs.
