Law enforcement agencies crack down on holiday drunk driving

Drunk driving is extremely dangerous, and it can be even more prevalent during the holiday season than other times of year. The Governors Highway Safety Association is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies to try to prevent people from driving under the influence this year. Their efforts, which will include safety checkpoints and more officers on the roads, will be ramped up from December 16 to January 2 to discourage drivers from getting behind the wheel after consuming alcoholic beverages.
"Any person who considers drinking and driving should know that police are out in full force watching for them," said GHSA executive director Barbara Harsha. "The time for warnings has long passed. If you drive drunk this holiday season, there will be consequences."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related automotive crash in their lifetime. Automotive repairs can be expensive, but an extended auto warranty can be used to cover the cost, so motorists have one less thing to worry about.
