Mazda recalls more than 52,000 Tribute SUVs for potential brake fluid leaks

A recall for more than 52,000 Mazda Tribute SUVs from the 2001 and 2002 model years was recently announced. The

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that these SUVs may develop brake fluid leaks, which can lead to smoke or even fire.

Faulty master cylinder reservoir caps in the vehicle can leak brake fluid. The liquid could possibly drip onto the brake system's electrical connectors and cause corrosion. The Chicago Tribune reports that Mazda is urging drivers to park their vehicles outside, just to be safe, until repairs can be made.

American automaker Ford, which partners with Mazda to co-produce vehicles, recently issued a similar recall for nearly 250,000 Escape SUVs made during the same time frame.

Leaking fluids can present a real risk for drivers and should be addressed right away, whether there is a recall or not. The repairs could be expensive, but an auto warranty will cover the costs so car owners have less to worry about.
