Honda brings first Fit EV to California city for testing only

Honda chose the city of Torrance, California, as the testing ground for the very first 2013 Honda Fit EV. The Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program has been collecting data in Torrance for the past year concerning local residents' feelings toward installing charging stations throughout the area. Honda will soon bring a plug-in hybrid vehicle to Torrance, and the automaker will also send Fit EVs to Stamford University and Google as well.

"This is an exciting day as we take another important step toward Honda's comprehensive vision for reducing CO2 emissions while at the same time advancing our relationship with the city of Torrance," said Steve Center, vice president of American Honda's Environmental Business Development Office. "With Honda's extensive experience and the real-world feedback from the city of Torrence, we will be even more prepared for the further customer adoption of electric vehicles."

The Fit EV is expected to have a maximum full-charge range of 123 miles and only takes three hours to recharge the battery. The new car will be available by mid-2012, and drivers who are ready to get into an EV may want to consider purchasing an extended warranty. This way, their current cars will be covered in case something breaks down before the Fit EV is available.
