Mazda set to unveil brand new compact SUV in L.A.

Mazda announced the details of its all-new 2013 CX-5 compact SUV one day before its official unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

"The 2013 CX-5 is the vehicle compact SUV shoppers have been asking for – that only Mazda can build," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda's North American operations. "Entering an extremely competitive segment, the all-new CX-5 has to offer more than just flash and features, but also has to perform and provide consumers with the dynamic response they've come to expect from Mazda – and it does. With its SKYACTIV underpinnings and best-in-class fuel economy, CX-5 proves that fun needn't be sacrificed for fuel efficiency and that compact doesn't equate compromise."

SKYACTIV technology is a Mazda-exclusive initiative to improve horsepower and torque without sacrificing fuel economy, design or safety. The CX-5 will be the first vehicle to feature the SKYACTIV engine and transmission. The SKYACTIV-G engine generates 155 horsepower and 160 lb-ft. of torque and is expected to deliver an impressive fuel economy for an SUV – 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 26 in the city.

Drivers who aren't quite ready to get into a new car like the Mazda CX-5 can take steps to improve their current vehicles' fuel efficiency. Getting regular oil changes and maintenance are just two ways to ensure that you are getting the most of every drop of fuel, and an extended warranty can cover the cost of both so drivers can save even more.
