Production of the Dodge Caliber has come to an end

Dodge Caliber owners may want to invest in car warranties soon, as Chrysler has just announced theend of the road for the small hatchback. The car, which was introduced in 2006 as the replacement for the Neon, was never a high-ranking vehicle, and this year saw a 21 percent drop in sales from 2010, according to The Detroit News.

Consumer Reports recently ranked the Caliber in the bottom five of an annual list of vehicles based on their value, along with the the Chevy Aveo, Aveo5, Smart ForTwo Passion and Chevy HHR. This small hatchback may not have done as well as Chrysler wanted, but the automaker is not giving up on the vehicle class.

The Caliber's replacement will be a newly-redesigned Dodge Dart, which has been out of production since 1976, according to the International Business Times. The new Dart will be unveiled in early January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

"The most significant thing is that they're trying to get back into the compact-car market," Edmunds.com analyst Jessica Caldwell told the news source. "It's something which Chrysler hasn't traditionally been very strong in."
