Steve Jobs leaves behind a legacy in the technology and automotive industries

Steve Jobs, the founder and former CEO of Apple, passed away on Wednesday, which has spurred many to revisit his tremendous contributions to the technological world. While most of the focus has been on Apple's advancements in the world of computers and handheld devices, there is also much to be said for what Jobs did for the automotive industry.

The advent of the iPod was quickly followed by radio adapters so people could listen to their MP3s on the road, and since this became so popular, car companies began to offer iPod integration as an optional accessory in their vehicles. Now, iPod hookups are standard on nearly every new car.

When Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007, it revolutionized the way people looked at navigation systems. No longer were GPS systems the only way for drivers to easily find their way to their destinations. The iPhone has a built-in navigation program that uses GPS technology, so drivers don't have to worry about hooking up a separate piece of equipment.

There are also apps that can be used to track vehicle performance and show drivers their fuel usage to help them save money at the pump. Getting regular oil changes and tuneups can also improve fuel economy, and an extended car warranty can cover the costs so drivers can save their money for the latest Apple gadgets.
